Yggr: A small GTK 4 code editor that is a test bed, not a product: editor features are proven here before they reach kat800, and so is shipping Odin software as a Flatpak.

Yggr is a proving ground, not an editor anyone is asked to adopt. It does two jobs for the rest of the suite.

The editor. kat800 has a built-in editor, and editor features are awkward to develop inside a terminal emulator, where every change means rebuilding the whole app to reach one pane. Yggr is that editor pulled out into its own window, so a feature can be tried against a real file in seconds. Language server support is the worked example: diagnostics, hover, completion and formatting are being proven here first, before they go into kat800.

The packaging. Shipping Odin software as a Flatpak means having a compiler inside the build sandbox, which the Odin SDK extension provides, with the language servers bundled and no host toolchain to lean on. Yggr is the smallest real application that exercises all of it, which is why it is the one application on the Amber Linux Flatpak remote.

The language server client is plain Odin with no GTK in it, so it is tested without a window, and a hover’s Markdown is drawn as styled text with anything the server sends escaped.

Install

Yggr is the one application on the Amber Linux Flatpak remote: flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists amberlinux https://flatpak.amberlinux.org/amberlinux.flatpakrepo, then flatpak install amberlinux io.github.hyperquader.Yggr.
