amber-glycin

glycin 2.2, GNOME's sandboxed image loader, for the Amber applications, installed in a folder of its own.

A page of Shared packages.

glycin is GNOME’s image loader. It decodes every picture in a small sandboxed process of its own, so a damaged or hostile file cannot reach the program that opened it. Mint 22 ships only the older glycin loaders, and no libglycin at all. amber-glycin provides glycin 2.2.1, installed under /usr/lib/amber-glycin.

It holds the library, the part that hands a decoded picture to GTK 4, and two loaders: one for the common raster formats and one for SVG. Each loader runs inside bubblewrap with a seccomp filter. The HEIF, AVIF and JPEG XL loaders are left out, because Mint’s own libheif and libjxl are too old for them.

Like amber-gtk4 and amber-vte, it is invisible to everything else. It is not on the system’s library path, and an application reaches it only because the application itself names that folder. It uses the GTK from amber-gtk4.

The Odin bindings, odin-glycin, are generated from this build.
