amber-vte

VTE 0.84.1 for the Amber applications, installed in a folder of its own so nothing else on the system notices it.

A page of Shared packages.

Mint 22 ships VTE 0.76. kat800’s terminal needs the termprop API and the UUID functions that arrived in 0.78. amber-vte provides one build of VTE 0.84.1, installed under /usr/lib/amber-vte, and kat800 depends on it.

Like amber-gtk4, it is invisible to everything else. It is not on the system’s library path, and an application reaches it only because the application itself names that folder. Every other program on the machine goes on using Mint’s own VTE. The package installs about 1.4 MB, has no headers, and uses the GTK from amber-gtk4.

It carries one patch of its own, so that a mouse selection survives output from the program in the terminal. Under a program that redraws all the time, upstream VTE cancels every selection before you let go of the button, and nothing is copied. Upstream tracks this as VTE issues 2726 and 2960.

The build used to live inside kat800. It is a package of its own so that the Odin bindings, odin-vte, are generated from the same VTE, and so another application could use it without carrying a build.
