amber-gtk4

GTK 4.16.13 for the Amber applications, installed in a folder of its own so nothing else on the system notices it.

A page of Shared packages.

Mint 22 ships GTK 4.14. kat800’s terminal needs 4.16, and Pinax, Ambrosia and Amberlin Settings are built against it too. amber-gtk4 provides one build of GTK 4.16.13 for all of them, installed under /usr/lib/amber-gtk4.

It is deliberately invisible to everything else. It is not on the system’s library path, and an application reaches it only because the application itself names that folder. Every other GTK 4 program on the machine goes on using Mint’s own. The package installs 10 MB and has no headers.

It carries one patch of its own, which moves an X11 clipboard conversion onto the main thread, so it is not quite an unmodified upstream build. The input method modules come from the system, so typing in other scripts keeps working.

GTK 4.18 needs Pango 1.56 and GLib 2.82, which Mint 22 does not have, and bundling those would reach much further into the system.

sudo apt install amber-gtk4
